300 racers joined us on a dry and windy day up on the hill this past October. It was a record setting year, with the highest number of registered participants ever. The feedback has been tremendously positive, with the only complaints heard were related to the cold wind. Participants enjoyed the fun, challenging course and raced hard.
The city was pleased with the event, too. We spent 3 days landscaping the grounds, filling in ruts, and more. The impact was minimal due to the ground work performed prior to the race. The permitting process for 2017 has already begun. Fortunately, we received permission to apply for use of the Eastern Promenade again. We did try for Deering Oaks and didn't receive approval. As frustrating as this is, we will continue to try for that venue while hosting on the Prom, with the hopes of garnering the city's approval someday. We are lucky to be an established, annual event because the city recently announced a moratorium on new events.
Next year's date is tentatively set for Sunday, October 22, 2017. We will once again go back-to-back with Downeast Cyclocross for a full weekend of Maine racing. See you then!
